1. Who we are
The Tiptree & District Business & Services Directory ("the directory") is run by Pulsar Web Works, a sole trader business based at Chapel Road, Tiptree, Essex, CO5 0RA. Pulsar Web Works is the "data controller" for the personal data described in this notice.
We are registered with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), registration reference ZC191609. You can verify our registration on the ICO's public register.

2. What data we hold
If you fill in our form
When you ask to be listed, to update a listing, or to be removed, we collect what you give us: your name, business name, email, phone number (optional), town, business category, website/social link and a short description, plus which request you're making. Netlify (our form and hosting provider) also logs technical data such as your IP address as part of spam protection.
Business listings
The directory lists local businesses. Some listings are submitted by the business; some are added from publicly available information (for example a business's own website or public social page) so residents can find local businesses easily. Where a listing names a sole trader, that may count as personal data.
3. Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To manage your listing and reply to you — where you contact us via the form, our basis is your consent and our steps to deal with your request.
- To run a free community directory — for listings compiled from public information, our basis is our legitimate interests (helping local people find local businesses, at no cost to anyone). We keep listings light — name, category, area and a link — and you can opt out at any time (see your rights below).
- Spam protection and security — our legitimate interest in keeping the form and site free of abuse.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent your data, and we don't share it for anyone else's marketing. We use a small number of trusted providers to run the site:
- Netlify — hosts the site and processes form submissions on our behalf (a data processor).
- Google Fonts — the site loads fonts from Google, which involves your browser contacting Google's servers.
We may also disclose information if required by law.
5. Where your data is processed
Some of our providers (such as Netlify and Google) are based outside the UK, including in the United States. Where data is transferred internationally, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the providers' standard contractual clauses and data-processing terms.
6. How long we keep it
We keep listing details for as long as your business is listed. Form enquiries are kept for as long as needed to deal with your request and for a reasonable period afterwards for our records, then deleted. If you ask to be removed, we take your listing down and delete the associated request data.
7. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to: access the data we hold about you; have it corrected; have it erased; object to or restrict our use of it; and (where relevant) data portability. For the directory, the two you'll most likely want are built right in and always free:
- Update your listing — correct anything at any time.
- Remove your listing — one form, no questions, no charge.
Or just email general@pulsarwebworks.co.uk. We'll respond within one month.
8. Cookies & analytics
We use Google Analytics (provided by Google) to see how many people use the directory and which pages are popular, so we can improve it. This sets cookies on your device and shares usage data — including your IP address (truncated by Google) — with Google.
Google Analytics only runs if you agree. When you first visit we ask for your consent; analytics stays switched off unless you click "Accept," and you can decline with one click. You can change your mind at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer. We use no advertising cookies, and we never sell or share your data for anyone else's marketing.
You can also opt out of Google Analytics across all websites using Google's opt-out browser add-on.
9. Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk or 0303 123 1113.
